Video of suspected UNN professor who attempted to sexually harass student goes viral

A video of a yet-to-be-identified lecturer suspected to be a professor at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State, who attempted to sexually harass a female student, went viral on Monday, April 22.

In the video, the lecturer was recorded in just his underwear after a botched attempt at having sexual relations with the student.

Although his name is yet to be verified, voices in the video identified him as a UNN lecturer and Professor of the General Studies (GS) unit of the university.

“We have been following this case from day one. As you can see, we have all the chats, voice notes, and everything,” a voice said.

Oga Lecturer reached out to sources within the university to confirm the authenticity of the video.

Although the lecturer’s name could not be verified, one of the sources confirmed that the video was most likely recorded within the school, as the Dean of Student Affairs, Edwin Omeje, was among those gathered at the scene.

“It seems to be true. Will confirm more tomorrow. I don’t know him but I could identify the face of the dean of student affairs in the video,” the source told Oga Lecturer.

Sexual harassment has been a recurrent issue in Nigerian universities, and female students are mostly the targets.

A survey carried out by the World Bank in 2018 showed that 70 per cent of Nigerian female graduates were sexually harassed by classmates and lecturers while they were students.

“The effects experienced by victims were depression and perceived insecurity on campus,” the report read.

Currently, former Dean of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) is standing trial before a court for sexual harassment.

Oga Lecturer recently reported that at least 43 lecturers were accused or indicted for sexual harassment between 2018 and 2023.
